Week 11A - Email Marketing

I have never owned a business before and never worked in a marketing position. Therefore I have never used email marketing. But I receive numerous marketing emails every day from many different types of businesses. Based on that experience, I tried to figure out what the best frequency to send newsletters for my business would be. I am subscribed to some email list where I receive emails daily, sometimes even more than once a day. I feel overwhelmed with that many mails, and most of the time I just delete them without opening. However, when a newsletter comes only once a month or maybe every other week, there is a better chance that I will open it.

Week 10B - Blogging for Business

When I started to think about what I would write about in my blog, I started with just a list of ideas. After I listed some ideas, categories stared to form. Categories not only help me organize my thoughts, but they also help my customers get a better overview of my blogs. Categories also make it easy for customers to find what they are looking for. As a result, I put my ideas in five different categories.

Week 9 Twitter - Sharing Your Thoughts in 140 Words or Less

I have to tell you that even after using Twitter for a whole week, I still feel very unfamiliar with it. Twitter is overwhelming for me, and I think it is really hard to find the right people or organizations to follow. I searched for potential connections with search words like Mexico, silver, jewelry artist, handmade, travel, coconut mask, and Taxco. With the help of these search words, I tried to find businesses that I could do some cross promotions with in the future. I looked through many Twitter accounts to find just a few which I decided to follow. Now I’m following an account related to women’s art and jewelry, a Mexican handicraft store, a Mexican and a couple of local San Diego travel accounts, and an artisanal mezcal account.

Week 8B - Get Visual - Let a Picture Tell a Story

Taxco 925 Mexican Silver Store
Taxco 925 Mexican Silver Store has a little over 6500 followers on Facebook, 415 followers on Instagram, and only 30 followers on Twitter. On Facebook their only posts are about sharing their website’s blogs. The posts usually get a few likes and a couple of comments. Posts that talk about Mexican artists or give advice for choosing jewelry or gemstones get the most responses, up to 42 likes and 12 shares. They have abandoned the Twitter and the Instagram accounts for more than a year. In the past on Instagram they used hashtags like #mexicanjewelry, #handicraft, #mexicolindo, #mexicosilver, and #taxco. But they do not use hashtags very often.

Week 8A - Get Visual - Let a Picture Tell a Story

Nowadays there are so many social media platforms! Although I think I know most which are trendy, I know that I do not know all the new social media sites. There are a bunch of sites which I have heard about but have never visited. With that said, I am still confident that choosing Instagram along with my Facebook account is my best option to get visual. I came to this conclusion from two different directions. First, I thought about what the best choice for me is, and second, I eliminated the choices that are not the right fit for me.

Week 7B - Engaging Your Customers

Learning new tricks on my business Facebook page is great fun and really useful at the same time. This week I learned about scheduling posts and events on Facebook. This tool is very useful. With scheduling, I have the luxury of creating my posts in advance, when I have the time, and have them automatically posted at a predetermined optimal time in the future when they are likely to have the most impact.

Week 7A - Engaging Your Customers - FaceBook Strategy

After I created my Facebook page, created a few initial posts, and invited friends to like my page, now it was time to find some strategic alliances. So, I started to think about what kind of business I would like to be connected with. Who could help me promote my business, whose content is worth sharing with my future fans? In short, whose business Facebook page should I like?
