So, you have decided that you want
to write blogs on your business website! It is a great idea, and probably one
of the best decisions you could make to improve your site. But if you are not
fully convinced yet, here is some helpful information about blogging.
Frequent and valuable blogs will
increase the traffic to your site tremendously. Why, you ask? Well there is
more than one reason for that. First of all, if you write “how to” guides, or teach
useful things about your products in your blog, your website will start to show
up more often and with a higher rank in search engine results. This happens when
your blogs have the right keywords embedded in valuable content. Second, if
your post helps answer your visitors’ questions, they will likely come back for
more information, and are more likely to like, share, and comment on your site.
Third, when you post regularly, that means you are active, and your website is
up to date. Both your potential customers and search engines like this! Search
engines rank websites higher if they are always up to date.
I think by know you see why
blogging brings traffic to your site. When you have more people visiting your
site, that will eventually translate to more people buying your products or
services. And why is that? It’s simple probability and percentages. For
example, if one percent of your visitors become customers, then 100 visitors
means only one customer, but 10,000 visitors means 100 customers. And is there
a way to increase this percentage in addition to increasing the number of
visitors? When people feel that your posts are valuable, they will come to
trust you. When people trust you, they are more likely to choose you over
another company they don’t know yet. Another way to build trust is to invite and
encourage your visitors to provide honest feedback and have a conversation with
them through such feedback.
So, what kind of blogpost should you
create? The content of the best blogposts is “evergreen”. This means that even if
someone finds it and reads it months or years later, the subject is still useful
and relevant. If you have blogposts that showcase your products, make sure they
are not just a sales pitch. Your posts should provide added value. For example,
a how to guide, to show how this product can help them solve a certain problem
or enhance the quality of their life.
Finally, let’s talk about the tone of
your blog posts. It is always good to write in a friendly manner. But depending
on your business, you need to decide how formal or informal your tone should be.
For example, if you run a serious business, write serious blogs. But if you
have a fun product, loosen up your writing style. When you write a blog, think
about who your target market is. Then think how you would talk with them if
they came to your store and you had an in-person conversation. Being yourself
when you write a blog is good and makes your writing more honest, but always
keep in mind who your audience is.
I love your comment about a post being "evergreen." I hadn't thought about that but it makes a lot of sense. I can't tell you how many times I've stumbled upon blogs that are totally irrelevant. Thanks for the great reminder to make sure my content is relevant and somewhat timeless. :)
