Week 6 - Setting up a FaceBook Business Page

Higher post reach or post engagement, which one is more important? For me, the answer is easy – I would always go for higher post engagement. Post reach measures how many people saw a specific post on their news feed. Post engagement measures how many people had a meaningful interaction with your post, such as likes, comments, or shares. It’s kind of like the difference between quantity (reach) and quality (engagement). Just because your post was seen by many people, it doesn’t mean they really looked at it, or they care about it. I run into many posts on my personal news feed. So according to Facebook statistics, these posts technically “reached” me, but many of them I do not care about and I just scroll past them without really looking at them.

Week 5B - Defining Your Target Market

Who is my target market? I think this is one of the hardest questions. I know that defining my target market is the first step to the success, but so many businesses fail to do it. Therefore, if I want to have a successful Mexican jewelry business this is a mandatory task. Back in Hungary in my friend’s store I was a prime customer. And if/when I open my Mexican jewelry store here, I would love to sell items which I would wear too. I guess then I need to target people like me.

Week 5A - Defining Your Target Market

To run a successful business and market effectively, it is crucial to clearly understand your target market. As Kerpen describes in “Likeable Social Media”, pinpointing small and well-defined target audiences is the only way to winning market share. The two websites I analyzed were https://www.armstronggarden.com/ and https://discovermyrtlecreek.com/. Both companies look like they sell quality gardening materials and provide help for their clients with classes and events. But there is a great difference in how they define their target audience, how they communicate with them, and how they present themselves on their website.

Week 4B - Aesthetics, Design, and Branding

The first website I chose to talk about is a Hungarian news website https://index.hu/. I visit this site quite often to find out about the latest news back in Hungary. Besides the quality of the posts, the website also has a user friendly design. It is really easy to navigate on this site. Every page has their logo in the top left corner, clicking which takes you to the home page. Links to all their main topics are listed under the logo in a header row, which is visibly separated from the content with an orange line. On the left side of the homepage there are up and down arrows, clicking which takes you to their partner portals. They also have a search function, and one-click access to the latest news listed by date and time. References in an article to other articles are hyperlinked to the other article for one-click access. After you read a news item you can find a list of related articles from the past at the bottom of the page.

Week 4A - Aesthetics, Design, and Branding

For my research to identify potential problems with websites I chose https://jamilin.com/ and http://www.roverp6cars.com/. As the main conclusion, I feel that both websites would benefit from understanding the “less is more” principle.

Week 3B - Communication - Business & Consumer Part 2

Taxco 925 Mexican Silver Store
None of the social media is up to date. Most of them had the last post over a year ago. Only Facebook has a post this year but that is also from March. Twitter was active between 2012 and 2016. In the last two years there were only two posts per year. Before that they posted often, sometimes every day, sometimes weekly. The Instagram account was only active for 3 months in 2013.
Pinterest over a year ago, Facebook 14 March 2019, Twitter 6 January 2016, Instagram 12 March 2013
The business used some of the social media platforms more frequently than the others, but it seems like they tried different platforms and just quit, stopped using them one after the other. When they were active, they posted nice pictures.

Week 3A - Communication - Business & Consumer

I have to tell you that I have never written a comment on any social media. Neither positive nor negative.  The most I did is “liked” content in a company`s Facebook account. Unfortunately, it doesn’t mean that I never had a bad experience with any company before, but in these cases I either wrote an email, called them up, or just let the thing go. I think I didn't comment before because of the cultural difference in the way I was brought up. For a long time, I felt it wouldn’t make a difference, the companies would not care. Nowadays I see that social media is a really important platform and more and more companies are starting to pay attention to what costumers are saying about them. Also, people read about the companies before they choose a product or a service. Social media can help me and future costumers too.

Week 17 Wrapping It Up

First let me tell you how much I enjoyed this class. I have learned a lot about the different social media sites and the various advantag...
