Week 3B - Communication - Business & Consumer Part 2

None of the social media is up to date. Most of them had the last post over a year ago. Only Facebook has a post this year but that is also from March. Twitter was active between 2012 and 2016. In the last two years there were only two posts per year. Before that they posted often, sometimes every day, sometimes weekly. The Instagram account was only active for 3 months in 2013.

The business used some of the social media platforms more frequently than the others, but it seems like they tried different platforms and just quit, stopped using them one after the other. When they were active, they posted nice pictures.

Every few days they post on Facebook. They were also very active on Instagram till July.

They actively use Facebook. They post nice pictures of the jewelry and also sometimes give some personal touches with little quotes and introduction to the people behind the business and the designers. I think they give a clear message about themselves. They also quickly respond to comments. They use Facebook well.

In December there were 6 posts in Facebook and Twitter. Otherwise they are only posting every other month.

They are not active at all. Even when they were posting in the past they only did very rarely.

Every day or other day, they post something on both Facebook and Instagram .

They use both social media very well. They post a lot, communicate with the clients. Reply to comments.  The brand is clear, and you have a feeling when you see the posts that you are dealing with professionals.

Instagram is well used though she only started to use in April, and there are a lot of items on Etsy. Blogger is not used anymore. On Facebook there are a few posts per month this year, and even less before that.

There are beautiful pictures on Instagram with hashtags. When there are posts on Facebook, those are nice too.

One of my ideas for a business is a Mexican jewelry store. For this reason, I did my research on jewelry stores, and I tried to find as may stores as possible which are selling Mexican jewelry. Three out of the five researched businesses specialize in Mexican jewelry, the other two are American designers.

I found that some of them are using social media very well, others not so well. The good users post frequently, and with pictures and posts they build a clear brand. The most used platforms are Facebook and Instagram. Which I think is not surprising, because as I see those are the two social media sites which help build a brand best for a jewelry business with the help of photos, videos and hashtags.  All the five companies use Facebook on one level or another, and only one of them is not using Instagram.

I also noticed that sometimes less is more. With only one exception, all of the five businesses started to use three, four, or even five different media platforms, but over time they did not keep up with all of them. They usually ended up using one or at most two sites. I think it is better just to have one social media platform or maybe two, but on those you need to be up to date and comment frequently. I think if you are not using a social media platform anymore then you should not advertise it on your website. For me it signals that maybe something is not going well with the business.

Overall, I think only a few of the five businesses I checked are effectively utilizing the great possibilities of the social media.
